"Billy's Crush" (1:30s)

This was my freshman year film at Calarts (1998). It's about a young student in love with his teacher.

This film is particularly close to my heart because each time I watch it, I remember all the work, discovery and joy at watching my characters come to life. I also remember learning the art of animation with my friends at school. Those were the days!

Hi! I think that this is such a nice animation!!! Good job! And it has a good concept as well!
I've been to CalArts mysef last summer, just visiting. Dante showed me around the campus. It's such a good school to learn animation. Unfortunatly I don't have the dough to go there, and because I'm from Holland, there wouldn't be a good scolarship available for me.
You are lucky!!! ;) Keep up the work and catch you later!

I TOTALLY remember seeing this at the producer's show that year... altho I could of sworn that you used something by Pizzicato Five as the music, but I could be mistaken. I don't even think that I met you yet!

All of your films have a ton of heart, Chris. I love 'em all.

Hi, I really like the animation. And yes, being a teacher, that's how teachers would respond when kids day-dream in class ;-p

After watching your animation year from year, I have to admit that Billy's Crush has a special place in my heart. Brilliant work.

The music really fits with the piece. Where did you get the soundtracks for some of your films?

Also, I apologize for bugging you, but did you produce all of your films through Photoshop, Imageready, and Premiere?

Hi, Chris,

Thanks for sharing your work. Billy's Crush is endearing, upbeat, and full of life. The feeling you put into creating it is beautiful. Your work is inspiring, makes me smile, and gives me hope. Very reminiscent of the black and white sketch from Fantasia... Such magic!

It's always been my dream to be an animator, and I still have time to make the dream come true, even though I'm now in my early 30's. Would you happen to have any advice for a beginner, that has not had college experience yet? Anything I should do to prepare, helpful online programs, or blog sites I should set up? At the time being, all I have is a portfolio with pencil, ink, and pastel sketches, but have yet to complete my own animations.

Thanks again for sharing!
