"The Gift" (2:00)

"The Gift" was my second year film. Its about a young boy who learns to fish with his grandfather. Basically about being young and experiencing the world through fresh eyes seen through the point of view of someone older and wiser.

Out of all my films, I feel that this was my favorite just because of the look and the message of it. It's also the only film of mine in "color". When I watch it, I can recall how hard it was to finish just because I threw out so much animation that I simply wasnt happy with. It was also the first time I stayed up consecutively for two days to get the film turned in on time....There was a real sense of accomplishment when it was finally finished.

Gorgeous film. You really handled the character acting very well. I really enjoyed when the boy yawned. The ending was pleasantly unexpected.

This is really beautiful. I especially like the nice touch of final shot turning into a brush painting.

I saw this a few years ago and I have remembered it every since. Your work is so clean, and the poses are really great observations of life. I love the kid pushing his toungue out and maing that "really trying hard" face. Just a great little film man!!

You're so good you're sick....teach me!
I remember looking at that yawn in school and thinking..."damn, that guy can animate a yawn" I've never animated a yawn, and if I ever do....it won't come close to the yawn you have in here. Great work.

As a vegetarian, I was seriously offended by this film.....

You've done an excellent job at catching the innocence of the child in this! You can really see how much he looks up to his grandfathers as he looks to him every time something happens. This is really great work. I have much to learn. Again this is very inspiring stuff!

Your film is beautiful! I've always wanted to do a film in the Chinese brush painting style, now I feel inspired. Where did you learn to paint in that style?

Your animation is really sweet too.

This film has had a lot of emotional impact on me, all through the magic of its animation and the illusion of life from the characters. I apologise if I´m redundant with what has already been said but...i cant help it: the kid's yawn is just a piece of art itself! I love your work. Thanks for posting your stuff on the net, really inspiring.
